Custom Piece Process

From first sketch to final polish, every Kate Macindoe piece is made slowly and intentionally. It is jewellery designed to tell your story and last a lifetime.

Step 1 — Get in touch

Fill out the custom commission form below with a brief description of your idea (photos are welcome). I’ll follow up with any questions and we’ll get the design process rolling.

Step 2 — Choose your natural object

If you haven’t already, find a natural object from a place that’s meaningful to you or the person you’re making the piece for (eg a shell, leaf, piece of driftwood, sea urchin or seaweed). Objects with defined texture translate best into metal.

Step 3 — Consultation

This can happen online or in person at my studio in Hastings, Victoria. We will explore and discuss some designs, stone options, your timeline and budget.

Step 4 — Quoting & confirmation

Once the design is finalised I’ll send you a clear quote. A deposit secures your commission and allows me to begin work.

Step 5 — Stone sourcing

If you decide to incorporate stones in your special piece I’ll find the perfect ethically sourced stones for your piece.

Step 6 — Handcrafting

Your piece is handmade in my home studio in Hastings, with trusted casters in Melbourne and a specialist stone setter. Using slow, traditional techniques, most commissions take 3–7 weeks to complete depending on the time of year.

Step 7 — Completion & delivery

When your piece is ready I’ll contact you to arrange studio pickup or delivery. Any outstanding balance is due on collection or before shipping. Then it’s yours to wear, gift, or treasure!
